When I Grow Up I’m going to..
Some people have a dream job, some people want to be famous, some want to achieve great things but not me. I don’t remember ever having dreams or ambitions
So I thought the internet is a great place to start. They might not be traditional life goals, some might not even be achievable but they are ideas and ideals.
I want to:
- Grow (at least) half my family’s consumption of vegetables and a third of our fruit
- Keep goats
- Keep bees
- Make cheese
- live in a country where marriage can be recognised as a legal contract of partnership between any consenting adults separate from but no better or worse than a religious affirmation of such a union
- Be a mother
- Be competent in conversational Irish
- Be able to read sanskrit
- Publish an article in an academic journal
- Publish a serious monograph
- Trek in the Himalayas
- Ride the trans-Siberian railway all the way from Moscow to Vladivostock
- Take my wife to Africa – Morocco, Tunisia, Uganda, South Africa, Botswana, Egypt… maybe climb Mount Kenya
- Get a completely different degree
- Learn to lay a proper Cornish hedge
- Walk in the Andes
- Convert my house to a point where we sustainably generate enough electricity to run at least our laptops (not as small as it sounds)
- Swim in the Pacific Ocean
- Sky-Dive
- Walk the whole Cornish Coast path
- Volunteer on a regular basis – probably in befriending or advocacy (poss. for citizen’s advice or similar)
- Pass my driving test, and get a HGV licence
- Learn to hotwire a car
- Go to Jordan, and Baghdad
- Watch the Northern lights from inside the Arctic circle
- Plant a tree for every one of my friends
- Create a scholarship fund
- Own a bespoke suit
- Get and keep up to date mountain quality first aid qualifications
- Find out what 9-5, 5 days a week is really like..
- Be my own boss
To be continued..
